Corporation Tax is a direct tax imposed by a government on the profit or net income earned by businesses entities which is effective for Financial Years starting on or after 1 June 2023.

Please see this illustration for explanation:

  • A company with a Financial Year beginning on July 1, 2023, and ending on June 30, 2024, will be liable for UAE Corporate Tax from July 1, 2023.
  • A company with a Financial Year starting on January 1, 2023, and ending on December 31, 2023, will become subject to UAE Corporate Tax from January 1, 2024.

Before You Begin:

  • Ensure your business meets the registration criteria as outlined by the Federal Tax Authority (FTA).
  • Gather necessary documents, including trade license details, owner information, and proof of address.
  • Create an account on the EmaraTax portal if you haven’t already and register as a Taxable Person.

By following these steps, you can successfully register for Corporate Tax:

  • Login to EmaraTax Portal

Go to the official EmaraTax website: www.eservices.tax.gov.ae and proceed to log in using your credentials.

These credentials typically include a username and password. Alternatively, you can use UAE Pass for authentication if you have it set up.

  • Select your desired Taxable Person:

Selecting an Existing Entity: If you’re dealing with an entity that is already registered with the FTA, you can select it from your list of taxable persons. Click ‘View’ to open the Taxable Person Dashboard

Please note that the taxable person can either be a natural person (such as an Individual) or a legal person (such as a Public Joint Stock Company, Incorporated, government body)

  • Access the Corporate Tax Tile on the Taxable Person Dashboard:

Locate the ‘Corporate Tax Tile’ on the Taxable person dashboard.

Click on ‘Register’ on the ‘Corporate Tax Registration’ bar within the dashboard to initiate the registration process.

  • Review the Instructions and Guidelines Page

Before proceeding further, carefully review this page outlining eligibility criteria, required documents, and key information needed to complete the application accurately. You must read and confirm that you understand these details by checking the box.

Then click on Start’ to begin the application process smoothly.

  • Provide Company Details & Documents:

Before proceeding, please see the following crucial information.

  • Please ensure that the documents support the information provided in the application to prevent any potential rejection or need for resubmission later.

Also note that the only supported file types are PDF, DOC and DOCX while the size limit is 15MB.

  • You can click on ‘Save as draft’ to save your application and return to it later for further work.
  • After completing all mandatory fields, click ‘Next Step’ to save and proceed to the ‘Identification Details’ section.

The registration process is divided into 5 major sections with a progress bar to guide you through completion. The current section is highlighted in blue while completed sections appear in green. Remember to fill in all mandatory fields to move forward. Optional fields are marked for your convenience.

  • Section 1: Entity Details

  1. Select the appropriate entity type and subtype from the provided options. However, registration is currently only available for these two options – Legal Person – UAE Public Joint Stock Company & Legal Person – UAE Private Company (incl. an Establishment)
  2. Country of Registration/ Incorporation & Date of Incorporation
  3. Upload your Certificate of incorporation/formation.
  4. Corporate Tax Period
  • Section 2:

A) Identification Details

  1. Enter your Main Trade License details, including the commercial name, license number, issuing authority, license issue date, trade license expiry date, Legal Name in English & Arabic, as well as the Trade Name in English &Arabic
  2. Trade License/Business License easily: Your Registration Assistant lets you directly upload your license on the form and let us handle the registration process for you.

B) Business Activities

  1. Briefly describe your primary business activities – The Main Industry, Main Group, Sub-Group, Activity and the Activity Code
  2. Also highlight whether any of the owners hold more than 25% of the ownership by ticking the Yes or No circles.
  3. Branch Details: If applicable, provide details for any branches your business operates within the UAE.
  • Section 3: Contact Details

Please provide contact information of your business this includes: Country, Building name & number, Street, Area, City, Emirate and preferred contact information (Mandatory – Mobile and landline number as well email.) Optional box – (P.O Box)

For a trade license in the UAE, please ensure that the address details you enter are identical to the information on the trade license. For natural persons, enter the address details of your house.

  • Section 4: Authorized Signatory

Expedite Signatory Uploads: Your Registration Shortcut makes uploading all necessary documents for the authorized signatory a breeze and lets us do the magic for you.

Designate an authorized signatory with their contact details – First and Last Name in English & Arabic, mobile number, email ID and other mandatory documents such as:

  • Passport of the owner who directly owns at least 25% of the shares directly.
  • Upload a valid Emirates ID (for UAE Residents) of the owner who directly owns at least 25% of the shares in a legal entity.
  • Upload a Passport of the authorized signatory.
  • Upload a front and back copy of a valid Emirates ID of authorized signatory.
  • Upload a Source of Authorization (either a copy of the power of attorney or memorandum of association to be uploaded)
  • Section 5: Review and Declaration

Review Information: Before finalizing the registration process, take the time to review all the information you’ve provided for accuracy and completeness. Make any necessary corrections or additions before proceeding.

Confirmation: Once you’re satisfied with the information provided, submit your registration details through the EmaraTax portal. You may receive a confirmation message or notification indicating that your registration has been successfully submitted.

Tax Registration Application Processing:

The FTA will review the registration application form and once approved, the status changes to Active on the Corporate Registration tax tile.

  • Corporation Tax Registration Number:

Upon successful registration, you will receive a Tax Registration Number (TRN) which is crucial for tax filing and compliance.
