Appointing a Tax Agency for a Taxable Person in the UAE: A Comprehensive Guide
February 21, 2024

According to the Federal Tax Authority (FTA), a tax agency is a registered entity that provides various tax related services to taxable persons. These services include:

  • Assisting with tax obligations: Involving tasks like preparing and filing tax returns, calculating tax liabilities, and ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations.
  • Offering tax advice & guidance: Tax agencies provide information and recommendations on tax matters such as applicable rates, deductions, credits, and navigating specific tax situations.
  • Representing taxable persons before the FTA: Tax agencies can act on behalf of individuals and businesses during audits, appeals, or disputes with the authority, advocating for their interests and ensuring fair treatment.

Here’s a detailed step-by-step guide on how to appoint a tax agency:

  • Logging into your eServices Account

Access your EmaraTax portal at www.eservices.tax.gov.ae and log in using your registered credentials.

  • Accessing the Taxable Person Dashboard

Once logged in, locate the Taxable Person Dashboard’ section. Please make sure you’re registered as a taxable person.

Access your company dashboard:

Click on “View” next to your company’s name to access its dedicated dashboard. You can refer to the image above.

  • Navigating to ‘User Authorisation’

Within the Taxable Person Dashboard, locate and click on the “User Authorisation” option. This grants access management functionalities.

  • Adding a User (Tax Agency):

Click “Add User”:

Look for the “Add User” button, located at the right corner usually indicated by a plus sign (+). This step initiates adding a new user to your account.

Select “Tax Agency”:

From the available options, choose “Tax Agency” as the user type you want to add. This specifies you are granting access to a professional tax agency.

  • Inputting the Tax Agency Number (TAN)

Understanding the Tax Agency Number (TAN)?

The TAN is a unique identification number assigned to registered tax agencies by the FTA. Obtain this number directly from the agency you wish to appoint.

Entering the TAN:

In the designated field, enter the Tax Agency Number of the agency you wish to appoint. This number can be obtained from the agency directly.

  • Verifying the agency:

Once entered, click on the “Search” button to initiate the process of verifying the agency’s details based on the entered TAN.

  • Viewing the Agency tax details and submitting the request

The system will display the retrieved information about the tax agency, including their name and registration details.

Verify accuracy:

Carefully review the displayed information to ensure it matches the details of the agency you intend to appoint.

Submitting your request:

If the details are correct, click on the “Add” button to submit your request to the chosen tax agency.

By following these steps, you have formally requested to appoint the chosen tax agency to manage your company’s tax affairs on the FTA eServices portal.

  • The agency will receive a notification and have the option to accept or reject your request. Once accepted, they will gain access to your relevant tax information and can perform authorized actions on your behalf within the portal.

It’s important to note that:

  • Grant access only to registered tax agencies with the FTA to ensure compliance and data security. These individuals possess the necessary qualifications and expertise to handle complex tax matters.
  • Distinguish between tax agencies and FTA branches: Tax agencies are independent entities and not affiliated with the FTA.
  • The FTA website provides a directory of registered tax agents, allowing individuals and businesses to search for qualified professionals based on their specific needs and location.

Therefore, when choosing a tax agency in the UAE, it’s crucial to ensure they are registered with the FTA and employ qualified tax agents to guarantee competent and compliant tax services. Ensure your taxes are in expert hands with our easy to follow tax agency appointment tutorial.
